When we recover
and begin to experience the absence of pain, we expect the pain to be permanently gone. We must recognize and accept where there was once deep love, the potential for pain will always remain.
The keyword here is ACCEPT. We must accept what "is" while allowing our path to change so that we do not constantly yearn for what "is not."
Suppose we have endured abusive relationships that have set the stage to cause us to believe horrible things about ourselves. When we have a setback on our recovery journey, we will likely let old thought patterns threaten our progress unless we are intentional about self-care and healthy goals. We need to be committed to starting right now for a healthy legacy. It's never too late to thrive.
It is important to identify our recovery journey as a place where we take time to care for the parts of us that are hurting rather than stuff emotions down so that others believe something inaccurate about us. Our hiding reality prevents us from dwelling among people who value us, and the facade is exhausting from survival mode.
Suicide beckons when we feel our pain, and the limitations it brings inconveniences others we wished valued us; this is precisely what our abusers are aiming for.
If you are on a recovery journey, I congratulate you and ask you to continue to nourish yourself.
You got this thing. Every day is a brand new beginning. Sometimes, we have to press restart many times before progress is made. Everything on a recovery journey is brand new in the midst of the deepest pain imaginable. Those of us who survive have an unequivocal superpowers.
