If the impending Father’s Day and listening to all the colloquialisms from the great dads on Christian radio doesn’t resonate, you may feel like the only one with a dad who chose something besides you.
Many of us had fathers who discarded the valuable gift God gave our parents in pursuit of something or someone else. Holidays designed to celebrate men who do an honorable job can be triggering for people early in recovery, but it does not always need to stay that way.
As we recover, we find gratitude for God‘s protection from people who did not care about us as individuals, even if they were God’s design to be our earthly fathers.
God is the only father who matters, and I hope you understand that this holiday season, if you are seeking acceptance from the man who should’ve loved and adored you but chose not to.
Many understand your pain, so you can keep that in mind as you enter the holiday, which might threaten to trigger your recovery and acceptance of an excruciatingly painful reality.
Don’t ever believe the lie that you’re the only one who didn’t have a father who was able to embrace your essence. Good fathers have unfortunately become somewhat of a rare treasure, they do not keep their families in toxic environments where parents have no accountability and don’t self-reflect.
Anyone can become a father, but many men choose not to invest in the role. They prefer to move on as if the presence of the individual they assisted in bringing into the world was irrelevant.
Father’s Day can be triggering for such individuals. Still, it can also be an opportunity for us to thank God for the ability to come into this world, even if our situation might have felt atypical to those who had fathers who were invested in their well-being.
Let’s be happy for those who are loved as we change the direction of our bloodline to attract healthy fathers and protect them from unhealthy ones.
