When I was at one of my lowest points before beginning my recovery journey in 2012, I had a counselor tell me that if I took care of myself, it would radiate into the lives of the people I loved.
I was so desperate that I had no choice but to take her wise advice.
Twelve years later, I am developing into a version of myself I never envisioned having the capacity to find.
With God as my constant companion and The source of courage and resilience, I have learned that one of the most important self-care things I can do is detach from people I loved dearly but cannot reciprocate my strong emotions.
Toxic fake relationships only waste precious time and lead us from God’s goodness. We must be willing to release that which harms us, the most valuable temple for His Holy Spirit.
As I have recovered, my emotions have leveled out, and I no longer feel as deeply as I did when I was bound in trauma from narcissistic abuse.
I still do not have the capacity for the things God is doing through me, and I am grateful that I decided to yield my life to Him in 1997. I have been steadily working towards making important changes and becoming the woman God designed, free of the limited belief systems I developed from being born into toxicity.
If you are in a toxic relationship or home environment, take care of yourself so healing can begin. Treat yourself like someone you love.
Lean on God through the redeeming blood of Jesus and get yourself safe and healthy. Little by little, things will improve; before you know it, after much heartache, you’ll heal and attract all kinds of goodness. You can live like you never dreamed possible.
God’s got you. Get yourself well. Make healthy decisions that your future self will thank you for. You only live once you get out of abuse.
