Surviving Abuse, Suicidal Thoughts, and Finding My Worth Through Love and God

In recovery, I became aware that the way I see and describe myself is what my system of “self” interprets to be true, even if it is not.

The prayer to receive Jesus, no matter WHAT our past has in it sounds something like this.

Dear Lord,

I am a sinner in need of a savior. I have been trying my hardest and realize I do not have what it takes to prosper without Your forgiveness and leadership.

I let go of the life as I have known it until now and open my hands to receive what You have for me.

I am willing to let go of mindsets, people, places, habits, and traditions to accept the new path that will lead to my prosperity.

By receiving You as my Lord and Savior, I am declaring that the death of Jesus was all anyone needs to enter eternal paradise in the presence of a holy God.

As a new Christian, I recognize that my body and life are now a temple for God‘s Holy Spirit, and I vow to care for myself so that God can be glorified in me.

I believe that all my sins are completely forgiven from the moment I accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior. I will not remind myself of them when God has already cast it as far as the East is from the West. I release shame.

In my gratitude for unmerited forgiveness, I also offer forgiveness to those who have betrayed and hurt me. Forgiveness does not mean reconnection, nor should it be given without a full understanding of what is being forgiven, but each Christian’s ultimate goal is full forgiveness for those who have hurt us.

Thank you, Lord, for receiving me as your child. I believe that when my body is finished, I will immediately be transformed into an eternal figure who will be in Your presence and the presence of others who have surrendered their lives to Christ.

Thank you God for taking me just as I am and not requiring me to change to receive Your love. Your love will change me, but that’s what I need.

Amen
