From Self-Denial to Soul Restoration: Why Self-Care Is Not Selfish

I struggled with self-care because I was raised in an environment that made me feel selfish or vain if I invested anything into myself.

As a child, I was not permitted to have pictures of myself in my room or spend time in the mirror because it was seen as a form of vanity.

It has been very difficult for me to learn to love and care for myself after being raised to believe that my smallness was necessary for acceptance in the world.

I am not a small individual, and I was tortured in such a superficial environment that cared more about appearance than my sensitive eagerness to please and precious, vulnerable heart. I was raised to be tough and that's not who I am.

Finding my true self has been an investment. I am so grateful for the work I have done, it will affect generations to come as people in my bloodline follow my lead and know their worth. My work is changing the tide and sparing someone else the agony of letting go of a toxic past and receiving a healthy future.

As I recovered, I broke down important areas of my life so that I could discover where I am on the spectrum Spiritually, Environmentally, Emotionally, and Physically (SEEP).

You do not need to buy the journal to figure this out; it's just a nice tool. The goal is to have individuals be in touch with themselves so the recovery process can occur.

Attention to self is terrifying for most trauma survivors especially if our abusers shamed us for self-care. It is the road from abuse and the pathway God uses to bring people into a state of healing.

Self-care is imperative for any recovery journey. Grab my journal and get to know yourself so that self-care becomes natural and you are an example for those who are looking to you for direction.
