We can celebrate our gifts and talents or focus on things we wish were different.
In recovery, I became aware that the way I see and describe myself is what my system of “self” interprets to be true, even if it is not.
I am.… We can celebrate our gifts and talents or focus on things we wish were different.
I used to make myself small so that people wouldn’t be inconvenienced by me and see me as bad as I saw myself.
I used to be encapsulated in self-loathing thoughts because of the perpetual criticism I received in my home environment toward anything I tried to do that expressed my individuality.
Abusive environments make victims feel as if everyone else is better than they are. Keeping victims insecure and apart from healthy things like self-dignity is the way abusers brainwash otherwise healthy people into believing they are not worthy of space on Earth.
Victims of abuse are not familiar with alternatives to being treated poorly by those they love and trust.
I want to encourage you to develop positive thoughts and verbiage about yourself. Consider a new approach of acting like you are valuable, even if it feels like that has never happened before and is hard to believe. Fake it til you make it, and let God use His word to tell you how valuable you are to Him just as you are. He loves us in ways we can't comprehend, but some hate themselves because that is how they were raised to see themselves in narcissistic relationships.
We do not honor our temple when we say or participate in negative comments about ourselves. God created the temple for his Holy Spirit to live within Jesus's followers.
Let’s all make taking care of such a gift a top priority.
